What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Wolf of Snow Hollow treads somewhat unsteadily between horror and comedy, but writer-director-star Jim Cummings' unique sensibilities make for an oddly haunting hybrid.

David Fear Rolling Stone It's the personal demons rather than old-fashioned monsters that get you - one of [the] central tenets of Cummings' genre exercise/portrait of a screw-up mash-up. Rated: 3/5 Oct 13, 2020 Full Review Kevin Crust Los Angeles Times "The Wolf of Snow Hollow" is a pleasingly quirky outing that has fun with the mythologies of both monsters and men. Oct 9, 2020 Full Review Josh Kupecki Austin Chronicle Cummings is so whip-smart in sustaining his manic energy with a layer of genuine pathos, that the effect transcends one-note cliche. Oct 9, 2020 Full Review Kate Boyle InSession Film The Wolf of Snow Hollow is another fantastic film from Jim Cummings. Its quirky sense of humor, surprisingly deep family dynamics, mixed with the murder mystery story make for an entertaining and unpredictable horror-comedy. Rated: A+ Mar 8, 2023 Full Review Eve Tushnet Patheos Snow Hollow is willing to name things like “toxic masculinity” and “anger issues” explicitly, but deft and subtle enough to show these abstractions emerging from and intersecting with the werewolf plot naturally. Jan 31, 2023 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut Jim Cummings’s The Wolf of Snow Hollow is a howling good time. Rated: 4/5 Sep 9, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Elina S Dialogue and plot felt like they were written by ChatGPT. There are Law & Order SVU episodes better than this movie. 1.5/10. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/14/25 Full Review Jacob C Characters are mostly unlikable except for Riki Lindhome's Julia and Robert Foster's Sherrif is at least occasionally believable (if not forgettable). The rest of the cast is bewilderingly annoying. The daughter and the other cops are insufferable, and Jim Cummings' John is the worst victim of the script of all. The film seems to want to be a comedy or at least leans too hard into the comedy, but also wants to have relatable family drama, which it butchers with terrible acting. The comedy only suits Riki, the rest of the cast suffer as the humor clashes terribly with the serious moments. There's honestly 2 different scenes where's women are being mauled, intercut with scenes of Jim being peeved at how stressed his life is, all while humorous music plays in the background...It's a mess. The concept of a werewolf serial murderer in a small mountain town is interesting but this concept would have been better suited to a TV show, perhaps written in the vein of a season of American Horror Story, or better yet, if they dropped the comedy for a serious crime thriller, something akin to a season of True Detective. There's surprisingly alot to work with here. The aged sheriff who should've retired already due to heart conditions hidden from the town. The majority of the police force not taking this seriously until it's too late. Riki should've had a more thorough subplot that'd make her ending more deserved while Jim's drama could've felt more real if it was handled so ridiculously. He'll, even the aggravatingly worthless cop who is a paranormal conspiracy nut could've been salvaged in a better film/TV show. The trailer alone I feel proves my point (they absolutely marketed this as a different film). I'm giving a whole star just for the concept alone, but it was terribly wasted. Ive seen a similar movie about wendigo with terrible cgi that was easier to sit through. I have no idea how the certified critics thought this was fresh enough to get 90%... Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review Michael P It was kinda corny but good at the same time. I would def recommend seeing it. I really enjoyed it Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/16/24 Full Review Camero W Not a good movie. The main character was extremely annoying and his acting was just not good. It seemed so forced and unconvincing. Riki Lindhome was the only person worth watching in this. The plot was ridiculous and not thoughtful, scary, or funny. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review Janice J Scary, funny, sad, Whodoneit! Horror, Mystery all in one. hope more people watch this movie. Not a cookie cutter story ! Original ideas…Will watch again and recommend to others Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/02/24 Full Review Goran G Its a fun movie but in a small town/county like this, where everyone knows each other, with all these bloody murders all over it, you really should be able to find a murderer within an hour especially if you know that suspect is 2m plus tall and above all - you know him personally :D.
