Amy Adams is great, but she's wasted along with the rest of a star-studded cast on a mystery that takes a long time to get going and often doesn't make much sense.

Cork B Yikes. Poor hitchcock rip off. It had some potential as a remake, but Adams' character is so thoroughly unlikeable (a real Diesel, wink wink, right Tangerine?), I was hoping like heck someone would just off her. But just like Finn's sacrifice scene in Last Jedi, alas, it was not to be. I was really rooting for the killer though. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review Dina B In my opinion this movie was super amazing kept me on the edge at all times it is a masterpiece sorry not sorry Amy's performance just blows it out of the water!!!!!! Amazing!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Abe J Very poorly paced movie with a nonsensical plot twist. Better to spend your time watching something else. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review Jeff M Yet another reason to hold Hitchcock in even higher regard, this movie basically gets everything wrong that REAR WINDOW got right. This movie has had a very troubled past with lots of rumored reshoots and tinkering after some supposedly bad audience preview screenings. And unfortunately it shows. Even the expository scenes at the beginning setting us up for the rollercoaster ride to come feel stale with deja vu. Adams has had a rough year now with this and the even worse HILLBILLY ELEGY. She is unable here to create a protagonist worth rooting for, and our antipathy toward the character results in antipathy for everything that happens to her character. Supporting characters come and go in the blink of any eye, and I'm shocked that these limited roles attracted such a talented cast of actors. Oldman does more overacting in three scenes than many actors do in a lifetime of projects. The revelations at the end become more and more ludicrous, complete with the obligatory SURPRISE, and the climax is shockingly and uncomfortably brutal. This movie is like excitedly walking through a haunted house and realizing the ghosts are on vacation for the weekend. Another example of brilliant talent wasted on sub-par material. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/24 Full Review Esteban C another book to movie adaptation gone terribly wrong! obviously i'm going to compare it with the book and obviously the book is better! i mean i enjoyed the book in a normal way, not obsessed but great whatsoever. the film was just not what i expected. the story lacked context. i know that because it's a movie the time to tell the story is reduced and all, but at least they could have tried to make it more comprehensible or expand the setting a little better. the scenery and cinematography was fine, i don't question that, but something i really didn't think was that great, and this almost never happens, are the costumes. for most of the characters there were accurate, but for some not really. i mean alistair was dressed like a grinderwald on fantastic beasts, ethan dressed so mature for his supposed age and jane aka katie was literally the worst dressed ever. they didn't make juliane moore justice and that upsets me a lot! now, as sort of criticism, let's discuss every character. anna, perfect casting perfect performance. literally an amazing protagonist. i felt her pain and emotions as well as in the book and it was just right! you go amy adams!!! jane aka katie, amazing casting, but her performance, specially in that scene in the kitchen, was not what i expected. she was a little unhinged and that was not what i initially thought of her character. ethan, i liked his performance and i think he did a great job being the antagonist of the story and all. alistair, i hated his as well as in the book so good job! he was more violent and less approachable in this version, which i don't find that good, but he was supposed to be like that after all. the real jane, that was one of the worst castings because she was not appealing to me in any way and she's definitely not her description in the book. detective little, great casting, i enjoyed his performance and had the same tender appeal for him in both versions, book and movie. norelli, this is probably the worst casting because she was literally a child in this movie. like what the fuck they were thinking?! she's not the cold stoned bitch who told anna her family is dead in such cruel way, she's literally a tom boy girl trying to have a line in a movie. david, bad casting! he was supposed to be dark haired!!! and of course, ed and olivia, they were amazing and really enjoyed THE ONLY SCENE they had <3 let's pick up there, the fact that the accident is treated in such a non important way pisses me off, because it's a very important part of the whole story. really loved the scene with the car inside the house, but apart from that is a no no for me. the ending in this one was more conclusive than the one in the book, and although i appreciate that, that doesn't erase the fact that most of the movie was just not as interesting or produced the same emotions that the book did! not complaining that much because i really enjoyed amy adams as anna and she playing the role was a factor that influenced me buying the book in the first place, but they could have done a better job and that, as always, is a shame :( Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/26/23 Full Review Rajat G Haven't seen that bad of a movie in a long time. The story has potential but bad execution. A waste of time, I was angry at the end of the movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Esther Zuckerman Thrillist After an extremely silly climax, everything wraps up easily and nicely, and you can't help but realize just how cheap these thrills were. But sometimes that's just what the doctor ordered.
