The movie suffers from an anticlimactic ending, but as in The Class, the ensemble scenes are electric. Go to Full Review

Workshop is right: it feels like the makers are rummaging around trying to find a movie. Go to Full Review

As storytelling, it's just not quite a filling meal, for all the feints being made towards a heart-of-darkness journey into French far-right thinking. Even so, there's a great deal to chew on... Go to Full Review

The film's utilization of social media and Internet technology is well conceived and executed. Go to Full Review

With a subtle touch, French filmmaker Laurent Cantet (The Class, 2008) takes on xenophobia, racism and alienation (and presumably support for the National Front) among young people in his fiction film, The Workshop. Go to Full Review

The kids in the workshop are articulate and argue with righteous passion. Through densely, thoughtfully composed debates between them, the film touches on a variety of hotly topical subject matters including race, national identity and terrorism. Go to Full Review

isla s 09/02/2022 This is a very interesting film - its relatively thought provoking and somewhat insightful too and its good at making you see things from different characters perspectives. There isn't much action but it still seemed quite atmospheric - I liked the setting, a rural setting, close by to cliff tops in summer time in France. I like films about social commentary, with different people challenging other peoples perspectives and seeing how the others react to that. If your not interested in this, then it'll be a boring watch but I thought it was a film with some good performances and that provides the proverbial 'food for thought'. Its quite understated in tone and feel but I think thats a good thing in this instance. By the end I found it quite engrossing and I'd say it is fairly memorable, so yes, I'd recommend this film if your interested in it. See more 10/19/2021 The societal problems shown in the film belong to not just France, and their complexities may cause dis-ease. And, of course, it's easy to dislike a movie where the male protagonist, Antoine (Matthieu Lucci) is a bundle of contradictions who displays an intensity that seems hostile. But, beneath that facade is the disaffection, disillusionment, loneliness, and yearning of so many 21st century youth. I was a high school teacher and guidance counselor for 25 years, and early on, I often found that beneath that facade was the kernel of a beautiful person. I thought the movie well acted, especially by Lucci and Marina Fois.
