Scott Tobias Variety Relentlessly unpleasant and ultimately banal. Feb 3, 2016 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com I grew tired of the nihilism of "The World of Kanako" long before it was over, and I have a high tolerance for that sort of thing, so that has to be taken into account when assessing the overall product, but the quality of the filmmaking never flags. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 4, 2015 Full Review Andy Webster New York Times Remorseless, repetitious and ultimately tedious. Dec 3, 2015 Full Review Kathy Fennessy The Stranger (Seattle, WA) The nihilistic atmosphere eventually becomes so oppressive that it swallows everything in its path. Aug 21, 2017 Full Review Alex Lines Film Inquiry Whilst not a film for everyone due to its nihilistic attitude and frequent physical and sexual violence, The World of Kanako is a must-see for fans of off-beat cinema. Jan 9, 2017 Full Review Adam Lowes CineVue The World of Kanako is a mixed bag of cinematic influences and styles. Rated: 2/5 Nov 3, 2016 Full Review Read all reviews

Hnin N The World of Kanako I love this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/13/23 Full Review william k Made with all the director's hallmark wild imagination and panache, this movie is not simply a downward spiral, but rather, right from the start, an exhausting visitation of a hellish world with no redeeming moments allowing the audience to take breath. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Impresionante cinta la de Nakashima. Impresionante Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member A movie that can get confusing at times (at least for me it was) due to parallel time lines constantly switching back and forth. Its a very interesting plot re a father (former police detective) who is trying to find his missing daughter. After a number of revelations come out during discussions with people involved in her life, he realizes his daughter is not the girl he imagined her to be. There's lots of violence, and even some gore, during the quest to find her. Its not scary at all, but it touches some themes that are disturbing, especially considering the ages of the kids involved. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Holy shit... A kick ass mesh of Oldboy, Suicide Club, Visitor Q, Battle Royale, Kill Bill and Sin City. With a layer of originality that makes this powerhouse Feel like a kuck in the gut and a wild F**k. -Mary Catherine, Cowardice Queen. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Twisted as hell, brutal and bloody brilliant. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
