Jack is a successful photographer. One day he thinks he sees something in the shadows of his studio but blames it on the tequila he had the night before. Another day, while getting ready for bed, he's shocked to see something outside his bedroom window, the "monster". A frantic search outside with his wife Carol turns up nothing. But later the monster hovers over him as he sleeps, and the next day his speech isn't quite right. More attacks occur and he blames the monster for his troubles. His wife and best friend wonder if maybe he's losing his mind. But the damage being done to his body is very real.

There is a Monster is as simple as you can get. There is no flashy CGI and the effects are basic and practical. It allows the story and characters to be the focus.The low-budget feel didn’t work against it, but you might want to dial down expectations.

All the actors are superb in their characterizations and limited sets. Joe Collins and Erna O Rourke all come from strong acting backgrounds, and it shows in the roles of Jack and Carol.

As a whole, the movie is never actively bad, but it ends up taking itself too seriously. This makes sense considering its inspiration, but it also takes away from what is otherwise a run of the mill thriller.

A successful photographer who owns his own business and is building up a good client base discovers he is being stalked -- by some kind of creepy, dark form. He tells his wife but she doesn't see any evidence of it. This dark force begins to torment him. "There Is a Monster" is a good movie with good performances from its actors (Joey Collins, Ena O'Rourke). The lighting and sound design are good and help build the suspense. This is a psychological horror movie w/ a good surprise at the end.

A very subtly-done horror movie that becomes increasingly creepier as the story unfolds. A successful photographer whose life is moving in a positive direction suddenly finds himself being stalked/watched by a mysterious dark figure. The form can be seen outside his house watching in, following his every move. It becomes an exercise in paranoia. The lead actor does a good job creating a sympathetic character we care about. The actress who plays his wife is also excellent The movie is a slow burn that leads to a surprise ending. Definitely worth watching!i
