Makani Young (Sydney Park) has moved from Hawaii to quiet, small-town Nebraska to live with her grandmother and finish her final year of high school. While it is easy to compare this to the admittedly more unique slashers before it, There’s Someone Inside Your House at the very least does everything on its own terms. It is not capitalizing on nostalgia or trapped in the past.

It’s slasher formula 101 – introduce the killer’s fodder (most often a group of insufferable teens) and then slice them, carve them, chop them, and impale them one by one. That’s this movie in a nutshell.

The movie keeps the book’s best idea—the killer who exposes secrets before striking, but trades tension for style. It looks like a horror film: neon lighting, autumn vibes, glossy camera work. It just doesn’t feel like one. The kills are creative on paper, but they’re rushed onscreen. Scenes cut away right when they should breathe. Fear needs oxygen. This movie keeps holding its breath.The killer never becomes a shadow in the hallway or a weight in the room;they’re more like a jump-scare delivery system. Makani is sympathetic, but the film softens her conflict so much that her secret loses its gravity. What should feel morally thorny becomes oddly tidy. The story hints at big ideas, identity, shame, the masks we wear, but glides past them like a stone skipping water. It isn’t terrible. It’s watchable. It’s the kind of horror you put on with friends on a rainy night and forget by morning. Stylish, quick, and hollow in the middle. A pretty shell around a scare that never quite lands.
