A native of Grass Valley, California, multifaceted director Patrick Brice (also occasionally credited as Patrick Kack-Brice) studied film at the prestigious California Institute of the Arts, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts. Brice didn't have to wait long for critical or public recognition: his student thesis film, the 19-minute documentary short "Maurice," immediately began to garner acclaim. It etched out an impressionistic portrait of Maurice Laroche, owner and projectionist of the Beverley, one of the last 35mm porno theaters in Europe. The prestigious Rotterdam International Film Festival took notice of Maurice and picked it up for competition, as did the Florida Film Festival, which awarded the movie Best Short Documentary. Brice also worked as an indie film actor, in the 2012 drama "Leave Me Like You Found Me," opposite Megan Boone and Lee Lynch. He then met and teamed up with indie film veteran Mark Duplass for his debut as a feature director, "Creep" (2014). Duplass produced and Brice wrote and directed this comedy-horror picture about a videographer named Aaron (Brice) who answers a Craigslist job posting about a one-time stint for a client named Josef (Duplass) in a rural mountain town, and learns that the hirer isn't nearly as innocuous as he initially appeared to be.
