Wendy Ide Observer (UK) It doesn’t always work – positioning spousal violence for lols is a fairly bold directorial gamble – but Cortellesi’s charisma and the message of empowerment carry the film. Rated: 3/5 Apr 29, 2024 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) A diverting and unusual movie, then, but not quite the classic it's being billed as. Rated: 3/5 Apr 26, 2024 Full Review Jonathan Romney Financial Times With meticulous design, and Davide Leone’s pitch-perfect camerawork, this is a thoughtful, emotionally satisfying, immensely entertaining one-off, with an ending that smartly dynamites our expectations. Rated: 4/5 Apr 25, 2024 Full Review Graeme Tuckett Stuff.co.nz This is a raucous and gritty slice of modern-day Italian neorealism. It is a film with a lot on its mind, but writer and director Paola Cortellesi has a deft way with a scene and a line, and the film remains buoyant from the first frame to the last. Rated: 4.5/5 Nov 30, 2024 Full Review Jane Freebury Jane Freebury An unusual and daring take on domestic abuse in post-war Rome with nods to the neorealist artistic trends of the time, and a clever about-turn that confounds our sense of tragedy foretold in panache and style Rated: 4/5 Nov 14, 2024 Full Review Andiee Paviour Nobody's Reading This But Me This saga of abuse takes its uphill time, but its bittersweet payoff is everything. Audience Member I am American and had the great fortune to see this film. I can see why it has been a huge success in Italy. What an incredible first film Paola Corellesi has directed and starred in. She deserves every accolade and I look forward to seeing what she does next. Brava!
