Ben D What is this film trying to be? By the end, a PSA (more on that later). The concept of the plot (rampant insomnia and unpotable water) is interesting, but there are so many plot holes and strange decisions from the characters it just isn’t fully thought out. It’s difficult to imagine anywhere in the country where an issue of this magnitude wouldn’t be receiving constant media attention and/or aid from the government. The water is contaminated and there’s none left on the shelves… so the government wouldn’t simply ship water to the town until the situation is resolved? That’s so minimal that even FEMA can handle that. Moreover, no one in our group (Brian Villalobos, Sarah Jack, Lori Kovacevich, Amelia Glazer, et al.) don’t have anyone, not a friend or family member, who lives somewhere with potable water that they can bring to them during this emergency? Lastly, there are clearly other drinks on the shelves. Sure, there’s nothing like water when you need it, but there’s water IN many other drinks that can mitigate the dehydration. I mean, they literally have cracked lips and are rationing gallons, and Jose (Villalobos) resorts to drinking his own piss. Drink a freakin’ iced tea! Until the penultimate scene, which truly is bad, the acting was the only thing keeping me from simply DNFing this movie. Scotty Walker as Trent, the mentally ill and/or afflicted, officious intermeddling neighbor, added thrills to the plot that were supposed to go to Tom (Brian Cogley) and Dom (P. Michael Hayes II), who were comically villainous. The final showdown scene, where douche #1 (Tom) and douche #2 (Dom) was so bad it seemed grafted on from a different movie. They show up at the watering hole and just decide they own it now because they have guns. No one else has a gun during this pre-apocalyptic setting? Tom is going to just get a blowjob out in the open? Off-camera, Lucy shoots Tom in the neck at point-blank range (feigning oral sex to pilfer the shotgun) and what we see is some blood spurting from his neck? I figured she had shanked him with a concealed blade. His head would’ve exploded! The pre-credits PSA to “Protect Your Waterways” made me want to throw my remote at the TV. As the viewer, we barely get an explanation of how the water became contaminated to begin with. How could it’ve been avoided? A citizen’s monitoring of the pharmaceutical company that poisoned the ravines? How dare writer/director Eric Owen give us this story and then browbeat us with a hollow platitude at the end. Randomly interspersed throughout the movie were these cool close-up, “floating head” scenes that were visually appealing, but still do not understand their meaning. Do something more with that because it was wasted here. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/14/24 Full Review Anteupt N This movie was a slow, boring, drawn out, rip off of several other much better movies. The plot was predictable and the poor choices made by the characters was even worse. The storyline had zero original concepts and the acting was just bad. The amount of time spent on nothing LITERALLY nothing was mind boggling and meaningless. I really wish I could get a refund for the 2 hours I spent watching this.
