A state-of-the-art remake of the classic William Castle horror film about a family that inherits a spectacular old house from an eccentric uncle. There's just one problem: the house seems to have a dangerous agenda all its own. Trapped in their new home by strangely shifting walls, the family encounters powerful and vengeful entities that threaten to annihilate anyone in their path.

Critics Consensus

The production design is first-rate, but 13 Ghosts is distinctly lacking in scares.

Director Beck discards Castle's signature cheeky verve, saddling the film with a poor script rife with hilarious exposition, a literally painful sound design and uniformly bad acting. Go to Full Review

By any objective accounting, Thirteen Ghosts is exactly a baker's dozen too many -- this is a zero of a film. Go to Full Review

It takes a 42 million dollar budget and wastes it on the dumbest set-pieces you can possibly imagine. As a result, it feels expensive but not in a good way – in an animal print on furniture way. Go to Full Review

Saintly S. @saintlysinner Dec 17 I absolutely loved the story, the acting in it was phenomenal and the way they did the ghosts was amazing! This is one of the few movies that I will always watch! If you don’t like this movie I will literally fist fight you haha! I think the movie could have gone into the backstories a bit more however it does leave it open for a series and that would be cool and I’d watch the heck out of that! My favorite ghost origin story is of the The Juggernaut! The fact that he is a giant serial killer is what originally attracted me to his story. I feel like he genuinely was not a good dude which makes him a seriously dangerous ghost! I love that he would brutally break every bone in the victim’s bodies and rip them apart and feed the pieces to his dogs. All of that information is just the icing on top of my messed up dark cake of why he my favorite! This is just such a horrendous way to die I just can’t imagine it! I would feel weird if I didn’t mention the fact that Matthew Lillard is my favorite character and brings a little comic relief to such a dark story! “Did I say there's a petting zoo downstairs? No! There are ghosts downstairs, Arthur!!” Always make me laugh! Definitely a different horror movie! Effects are great and the ghosts are.plentiful....With some comedy. Could it have been better, of course, but better then the ratings it recieved! See more Tygari D Nov 28 It is an alright horror but you will feel throughout the fiilm that the story is being rushed instead of being properly built up. The scenery and the special effects are top notch. The story is alright but always feels like it is skipping important scenes to keep time down. The acting is decent but never has a chance to shine due to the feel of scenes getting skipped. The ghosts barely have any any screen time. The whole movie ends up a rushed messed in the end.
