Anne T. Donahue Globe and Mail It's an exercise in storytelling that evolves quickly into a valuable lesson for anyone who purports to be a feminist, an ally or a film and television lover. You'll never watch either the same way again. Rated: 3/4 Aug 28, 2019 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It really is a very important film. Aug 12, 2019 Full Review Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times If anyone needs convincing at this late date that gender inequality both in front of and behind the camera is the norm in Hollywood, "This Changes Everything" will get the job done. Aug 8, 2019 Full Review Zofia Wijaszka Screen Queens In its technical simplicity, This Changes Everything raises the problem of gender injustice rooted in the past and all-embracing the contemporary age. Rated: A Feb 13, 2022 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse The presentation of the information is basic, talking heads, title cards and charts, but the movie's retelling of the legal fights for equality coupled with the women's personal stories make for a fascinating and compelling lesson. Jane N Informative without preaching Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/17/19 Full Review Debra This needs to be seen on a widespread basis and reach all levels of our society regardless of gender. The Geena Davis Institute has done amazing work and is one I only hope continues to provide moving information of substance. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/23/19 Full Review Annabelle O In the film This Changes Everything by Tom Donahue, I was deeply impacted by the message this film displayed. I learned how important screen representation is when it comes to gender equality. Before watching this film, I had no idea how little screen time female’s received compared to male’s or how if they were on the screen it was to show off their body or sexuality. I was happy to see these actresses, female directors, and journalists taking a stand to get proper equality on the screen. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/13/24 Full Review Melis S As a young filmmaker, the documentary opened my eyes to the evolution of women’s representation on screen. It didn’t occur to me how little I was exposed to in terms of how women were portrayed as objects before the 2020s. I will make sure to watch the films that were mentioned to broaden my horizons. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/13/24 Full Review Alia A I was inspired by the stories of trailblazing women in the industry, whose experiences highlight that many women are not alone in their struggles. Their voices offer solidarity and strength. The film’s editing was also impressive, seamlessly weaving the narrative together and creating a cohesive, impactful story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/12/24 Full Review Ashley W This film really changed my perspective on how women are portrayed in movies and TV shows. Since watching it I’ve realized how so many films before about 2020 portray women as objects or they only have one or two women cast. I was extremely surprised to find how little representation women in Hollywood get but I’m glad that streamers, such as FX put in the effort represent females more as a result of studies such as this one.
