Dave Kehr Chicago Reader Jean Renoir's 1943 film has its passionate defenders; the unfortunate thing, though, is that it needs them. May 8, 2007 Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out One of his quietest and least startling. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Bosley Crowther New York Times It should have been stronger drama than it is. But for the points it does make and its concept of man as a continuing vessel for freedom's fire, it is certainly well worth seeing. It comes close, even if doesn't quite hit the mark. Rated: 3/5 Mar 25, 2006 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Fails to be as inspirational when viewed today as it probably was during its day. Rated: B- Aug 22, 2007 Full Review Derek Smith Cinematic Reflections It moves along like a well-oiled machine until the devestating final act ties all of the smaller stories together, making it's point without being overbearing or obvious. Rated: 4/4 Dec 30, 2006 Full Review TV Guide There is no black and white, no good or evil. There is only grey, and, in that grey area, an understanding of the frailty of human nature. Brad H Just watched as I had some free time on Turner Classic Movies. It is a must see regarding tyranny and resisting those who want to control speech and freedoms. Interesting how history teeters repeatedly with tyranny, control, and how elites are involved. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review Steve D The strong cast does good work. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review ashley h This Land Is Mine is a decent film. It is about a mild-mannered school-teacher in a Nazi-occupied town during W.W.II who finds himself being torn between collaboration and resistance. Charles Laughton and Maureen O'Hara give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Jean Renoir did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Frances H An inspirational film with a stunning final scene that displays the marvelous acting genius that was Charles Laughton. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/27/20 Full Review Audience Member One of the most uplifting endings exposing the dangers of socialism. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review s r A fictional story that manages to raise good questions about resistance during Nazi occupation. One man's saboteur is another's freedom fighter. Could have done without some of the melodrama with the grandmother. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
