Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express Saif [Ali Khan] and Rani [Mukherji] look a great deal more comfortable with what they are asked to do, despite it being a fantasy: May 8, 2019 Full Review Namrata Joshi Outlook A reasonably nice kiddie flick, but fails to reach out to adults. Essentially like a cartoon film, utterly simplistic in every aspect-characters, plot or narration. Rated: 2/4 Jan 29, 2019 Full Review Anil Sinanan Time Out Kohli's unsentimental direction results in a magical technically-polished universal crowd-pleaser which can rival any recent Disney fantasy. Rated: 4/5 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review Frank Lovece Film Journal International A tearjerker-comedy family film that doesn't make you want to puke. Jul 3, 2008 Full Review Maitland McDonagh TV Guide Bollywood writer-director filmmaker Kunal Kohli's spin on Mary Poppins is less cloying than its high proportion of cute orphans, adorable animals and fairy-dusted whimsy. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 3, 2008 Full Review Matthew Nestel Boxoffice Magazine All of the acting is pretty high school drama class...That being obvious, there are some technical leaps that make for fun cinema. Indian c Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic - A tale of two extremes. On one hand, the movie is about the forming of an unlikely family. On the other, it is about a generic romance between a grown man and a literal angel. On one hand, the movie tells us that, with time and effort, enemies can become friends when they learn to forgive. On the other, it shows that enemies come together only when god intervenes. On one hand, it is movie that that tells a restrained, heartfelt story the whole family can appreciate. On the other, it features terrible musical numbers with equally terrible visual effects, the "highlight" being an egregiously inappropriate pool party. On one hand, the movie effortlessly mixes honest humor with poignant scenes that can warm the coldest of hearts. On the other, it clumsily tries to bring together annoying melodrama with trite, clichéd, corny dialogue. On one hand, the movie features strong, flawed and well-developed characters like Ranbeer and Vashisht that learn to overcome their flaws and become better people over the course of the movie. On the other, it ham-fistedly injects stereotypical, insufferable, one-dimensional planks of wood like Malaika into an otherwise decent story. On one hand, the movie expertly builds up to an emotion-heavy climax. On the other, it delivers a cringe-inducing finale that ends in the most mundane manner possible - until the final scene provides an unwelcome surprise as a final middle finger to the audience. On one hand, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic appeals to everyone. On the other, it appeals to no one. Because of the uneven nature of this film, I cannot numericize it like I normally do to other films. If you are a person who can look past the flaws of a film and appreciate a decent story, give this film a try. However, if you are a person who hates glaring flaws in decent movies, please stay away from this film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/22 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful movie for kids Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie was a nuts. It had a disturbing storyline which none will like. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member For most of the viewing, 'TPTM' works because it tends to address the bloodiness of the reason why these kiddos are staying in Saif Ali Khan's house. In fact, every Hindi film with a Disney fairytale wrap which addresses death by tear-jerking as much as crowd-pleasing is a treat to watch. Upar se the film has stunning performances and actors who consistently deliver. My problem with the film though is that it runs hard but never soars as much as it should have been. But this is in fact a minor problem in a good fm which knows where to take a pause, where to sing, where to dance, where to speak and just where to enjoy itself. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Don't get fooled by the critic score on this one Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Cute little bollywood for the kids. Genevieve loved the theme song and got a kick out of a few parts. Obviously it's a long watch seeing as it's a bollywood ;p Realistically though, what kind of judicial sentencing is that?!
