Kim Newman Sight & Sound Chris Hemsworth makes an imposing, good-humoured Thor... but the motor of the film is Tom Hiddleston's complex, conflicted Loki. Jul 10, 2018 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Witty, charming and very current, the big screen adaptation of Thor is sure to catapult its star Chris Hemsworth (whose wife, Elsa Pataky, ironically stars in Fast Five) to leading man status. Rated: B Sep 8, 2017 Full Review Rafer Guzman Newsday Let's hope Branagh was well-compensated, at least. To quote his favorite author: No profit grows where is no pleasure taken. Rated: 2/4 Apr 12, 2013 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson It's a grand, epic, and galaxy-bending display of gods among men. Never before has a superhero movie been so, well, super in its scope and size, yet still leaving room for a little dose of humanity. Rated: 4/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Noah Berlatsky Everything is Horrible (Substack) Rewatching now, it feels charmingly self-contained and coherent compared to many of its increasingly bloated successors. Aug 5, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Branagh delivers more than anyone likely expected from a Thor comic adaptation, achieving a hugely entertaining success through his obvious understanding of both comic book and Norse mythologies. Henry S Thor is a simple and charming movie that doesn't quite stick the landing due to it's messy third act. The family dynamic and extremely entertaining fish out of water story make this a fun addition to the MCU. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/25 Full Review James E One of the less memorable mcu films. Most of the scenes feel overly dramatic and forced, though they are not without their entertaining moments. Tom Huddleston, Anthony Hopkins and Stellan Skarsgard are great in their performances, the rest of the cast has little room to prove their merit, though they are not bad. Worth a watch, but not even close to the best of the mcu. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/11/25 Full Review Mate P Thor is an enjoyable, intriguing movie with infuriating cinematography. The characters simple, but interesting. One could say there's too many, but I enjoyed both story lines and their characters. I think the concept of mythology being the truth is really interesting and fun to watch. The story is predictable, but the dialogues felt realistic. On the other hand I hated the cinematography. There were rarely any great shots and every second frame is in Dutch angle. It was infuriating, because it doesn't have purpose. The Dutch angle is meant to make the audience feel uncomfortable, but in this movie it was used everywhere and in most of those scenes, there was no tension. So obviously I disliked the cinematography and direction. The editing is fine and the pacing is good. Thor is a movie I like more than most people, but I don't understand how the cinematography could be this bad. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review Samuel W Thor boasts a new side of the MCU by introducing a cosmic and godly aspect to the beloved universe. Following the God of Thunder, who gets banished to Midgard (Earth) after a crime of passion, he must learn to be the god and King he was meant to be as his brother, Loki, competes with him for the throne. With interesting new characters, and moments that are hilarious, heartfelt, and overall cool to look at, it falls short in many other aspects including not being as interesting as the origins that surround his. But with a fresh take on heroism and the presence of outstanding actors, this is still a more-than-good watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/01/25 Full Review Kári Leó Ó It's pretty bad but not the worst marvel movie it got some positives loke Tom Hiddleston as Loki was a great casting. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/27/24 Full Review Brayden G Better than I expected Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/23/24 Full Review Read all reviews
