Critics Consensus

Treading water between gnarly kills, Thrash dishes some old-fashioned jolts but would've had more bite if its human characters were more compelling chum.

More shallow than The Shallows, and lacking the depth of even Deep Blue Sea, this has chuckle-worthy moments but will be forgotten roughly 47 metres down in the lower-echelons of shark cinema. Go to Full Review

Nothing in Thrash is going to wow Steven Spielberg, and its adherence to plot logic is elastic to say the least. But as bloody, dumb shark thrillers go, it stays afloat. Go to Full Review

This is a Netflix and Chomp movie, just 80 minutes long (if you don’t count the closing credits), and the compact run time does more than keep “Thrash” from wearing out its welcome. Go to Full Review

The many killings are amusingly staged, and the CG is OK; that’s probably what matters most in product like this. Go to Full Review

David F @FallenAngel00me 14h So much wrong with how the movie portrays Bull Sharks and water. But mainly the water. Once the storm eases, the water wouldn't keep rising in the open to where it does in the movie. I understand why they chose to do it, but it results in eye rolling rather than genuine tension the director was aiming for. And the story really didn't need a pregnant woman. She feels like she's just there to try and give audiences someone to care about. But she's not much more egregious than the rest of the characters, they're all bland and hard to invest in. Then there is the characters and usual hollywood/Netflix tropes. Black family - loving. White family - parents are awful. A change would be appreciated. And a mother who has just gave birth fights off a full grown Bull Shark with a stick. Lol just lol See more D J @djordan321 15h Whatever went wrong here truly needs to be studied. This movie does a weird mind trick on you where you almost believe what you're seeing, but then you just feel like you're watching a badly put-together movie the whole time. You can't do anything but notice the inconsistencies. See more Renaldo D @RT30888824 15h It was awful. But it was a way to pass the time. See more Ian W. @iwaldman 23h ‘Thrash’ (2026) I was ok with accepting, with very little explanation, that there was a giant hurricane approaching coinciding with recent shark attacks. I also appreciated that this film didn’t waste a second getting to the “action”, but just a few minutes more could have been spent giving us a reason to care about the characters. The characters we got were a bunch of underdeveloped, slow-thinking bodies, only there to serve the initial premise: hurricane + sharks. Not to be confused with a ‘Sharknado’, it’s not that. Once the action kicks off, I found the rate at which people started being attacked very jarring and almost hilarious. The problem is the film wanted me to take it seriously and I couldn’t. It’s possible that if this film took a more comedic approach, it could have had more staying power amongst fans. The cleverest part of this film was the introduction to a meat truck at the start of the film that would be tipped over 10 minutes later to help attract the sharks. That See more Read all reviews
