Retiring police officer Peter Casey (Thomas Mitchell) resents his replacement, Angus Ferguson (Dennis Morgan), a young Scotsman. To help Peter adjust, his daughters, Maureen (Priscilla Lane), Patricia (Virginia Grey) and Heloise (Irene Hervey), suggest he run for alderman.
