I have given this movie two stars because it covers an area of the UK in serious need of investment - Grimsby. Everything else about the movie was terrible. Stereotype characters that could have come from Trainspotting or the Fully Monty. Overacting. And, a pretty poor story line. This is 135 minutes I won't get back.

It's not a Guy Ritchie flick, but it tries mimicking one… poorly. Poorly scripted, and with no real sense of what it would actually mean to anyone if everything works out/doesn't work out, it all feels a little pointless, and empty

This movie had its flaws, but it was a good story, was genuinely funny in places, and had a truth and grit to it that schmaltz like Brassed Off and Billy Elliot never reach. Despite the upbeat warm comedy conventions of the movie, and a cheat around the ending, there is real grit here. Something comes over of what it must feel like to come from an underprivileged coastal town like Grimsby. That's a very good, very rare thing these days. Sacha Baron Cohen's Grimsby was more scabrous, but it was essentially a lie from an outsider, and had a generic 'Northerners are thick' thing going on. This 3 Day Millionaire feels much more real, way more true - and is very lovable as a result.
