Anupama Chopra The Hollywood Reporter A muddled gangster saga Jun 25, 2025 Full Review Andrew Reichel In Review Online All empty tropes in possession of little verve, with A.R. Rahman’s score trying every trick in the book to try and supply a lifeforce to something that’s mostly dead. Jun 23, 2025 Full Review Latha Srinivasan Hindustan Times The movie has emotions, intense action and some romance but the plot is thin and execution was paramount to making this flick highly engaging. And that’s where it falters. Rated: 2.5/5 Jun 6, 2025 Full Review Simon Foster Screen-Space The narrative becomes increasingly preposterous (about the time Nepalese monks become a plot point), but the visuals are eye-popping and leading man Haasan (channeling late-career Russell Crowe, as he ages into the role) makes for a winning anti-hero. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 6, 2025 Full Review Saibal Chatterjee NDTV Once the core of its central idea begins to wear thin as a result of being stretched to snapping point, not even Mani Ratnam's style and Kamal Haasan's presence are enough to pull the bacons out of the fire. Rated: 2/5 Jun 6, 2025 Full Review Nandini Ramnath Scroll.in Thug Life looks fresh, exciting and seductive – the classic Mani Ratnam trick to make even the routine appear like something you have never seen before. SREE Not a great story plot. No wow factors overall. Not theatre watch worth. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/18/25 Full Review Saravanan Worst ever movie for director, music and the big actors Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/09/25 Full Review Gridharan Its definitely a better gangster drama focusing more on emotions than actions. The background score was fantastic. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/08/25 Full Review Srikanth S Great music! Great cinematography! Screen play not crisp especially in second half! Simbu matched Kamal's performance and more. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/07/25 Full Review Shan Doesnt seem like a Maniratnam Movie. Very worst story line. First half is not bad. But second half is worst. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/07/25 Full Review Shreya I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. I think both Kamal and Silambarasan portrayed their characters well. The story itself reminded me of some of the novels I used to read when I was younger. Some of the action sequences especially the final confrontations were choreographed beautifully. It definitely was a very emotional movie and AR Rehmans music was spot on and that included the background score. Very enjoyable and you know what - I may watch it again ! The creativity of both Mani Ratnam and Kamal was very obvious throughout! Again dont look at the negative reviews ( not sure what that is about) . Go watch it yourself !
