Audience Member Routine but enjoyable martial arts story of revenge. A Chinese man's father is killed by occupying Japanese forces. The young man then trains (cue training sequences) and then avenges his father's murder (cue Chinese vs. Japanese sequences). It's nothing you haven't seen before, but it's well mounted if nothing spectacular. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Thunderbolt Fist is a crappy propaganda movie disguised as a martial arts movie. When his father is killed by occupying Japanese forces, young Tie Wa hides in the mountains, training and seeking revenge. After some subplots involving a love triangle and having his arm destroyed, Tie studies the manual his father left him (which is not even shown) and is able to defeat the Japanese single handedly. The ending climax is a bit on the weird side, as Tie and his friends crash the villain's lair and then accepts a duel in public instead, which makes no sense. Then he tears off the villain's arms, deals with cheaters, and then kicks the badguy so hard his foot goes through the man's chest. If it weren't for the strange shift in tone at the end, Thunderbolt Fist would be a basic entertaining film, but it ends up leaving a bad taste in your mouth. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Evil Japanese ronin come to a Chinese village to monopolize the gin sing trade and start pushing everybody around. A group of fighters escape to the mountains to sharpen their skills and plan their revenge. A typical, straightforward martial arts film and nothing more. The story is very commonplace. The fights weren't very impressive. However, the final fight, which is the only excellent fight scene in the movie. You'll see the protagonist chop the karate master's arm off. Plus the protagonist does a flying kick through the karate master's belly and blood was spurting all over the place which was awesome. If you like kung fu films like Fist of Fury and King Boxer, you might like this as well.
