Nell Minow Movie Mom Rated: 4/5 May 6, 2004 Full Review Kimberly Pierce Ticklish Business Tiger Bay is a bit of a deep cut of British cinema which I found an enjoyable and eye-opening experience... (it) is a work of love showing the depth and power of the British New Wave. Theres a lot to love in this one. Rated: A- Jun 28, 2020 Full Review Clyde Gilmour Maclean's Magazine This may not sound promising but the film wins sympathy from the start - and it offers a memorable debut by actor John Mills' twelve year-old daughter Hayley. Jul 12, 2018 Full Review MFB Critics Monthly Film Bulletin Lee-Thompson's direction, less happy in the early scenes of murder and first encounter, is otherwise craftsmanlike, with a good use of locations and above all a firm feeling for outcasts and foreigners, their solidity and their background. Joe D what a performance by a 12 year old. The rest of the cast did a great job, but she made the movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/11/24 Full Review Audience Member As a story examining the moral quandaries inherent in the age-old concept of honor among criminals, "Tiger Bay" offers up a lightly engaging experience coupled with a memorable duo whose relationship might tug at our heartstrings a little more if we were able to take the story more seriously. The film is to be admired for its willingness to craft truly morally ambiguous characters, evading the pitfalls inherent in manipulating their personal qualities in such transparent fashion as to guarantee audience sympathy. Instead, we sympathize if we feel so compelled, but the commitment is never forced; we acknowledge that such sympathy involves a kind of underhanded complicity in the girl's willingness to throw an innocent man overboard on behalf of a rather selfish loyalty. All in all, the film engages us with a melodramatic story that we accept on the basis of its mildly entertaining qualities, although we may feel deprived of the more satisfying sustenance available in more visionary examples of the noir genre. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member A decent Noir worth watching at least once. Character developments and plot point in this film have a way to hold the viewers interest without getting bored. However there are some moments that make the main characters motives seem questionable and not as likable for me. The main issue I had with the storyline wasn't the question about loyalty towards the killer but the dangers of bearing false witness against an innocent man in order to protect the culprits identity. I would instead recommend "On the Waterfront " Starring Marlon Brando as the better companion piece The choice between speaking up against wrongdoings verses loyalty towards another is depicted much better in Eli Kazan's production. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I really liked it. It was a well crafted and generally well acted. The story was excellent. And it was a pleasure seeing Hayley Mills in something which I'd never seen her in before. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Frances H Hayley Mills knocks it out of the park and won a BAFTA for her first role along side her father and Horst Buchholz in this unusual movie telling the story of a an imaginative child witness to a murder who forms a bond with the man she sees committing the murder. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/25/20 Full Review Audience Member Amazing performance by young Haley Mills in this completely unpredictable drama. Horst Buchholz is stunningly gorgeous! Don't miss this excellent oldie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
