Till distinguishes itself with the intimacy of its approach. As well as possessing a luminous beauty made for close-ups, Deadwyler, displays a deep understanding of Mamie’s grief and her urge to make her son’s memory stand for something.

While this was a dramatic recount of the tragedy that took place, it shook me to my core. Till showed me brutality in a new light and how the brutality could be felt from different perspectives or not even visible at all.

Why should anyone watch “Till” other than it is good for you? Deadwyler’s performance, the lived-in feel of the period piece to make it feel immersive and contemporary, not ancient and removed, and the music as a horror element.

Magnificent Academy Award worthy performance by Danielle Deadwyler with great supporting performances around her. Knowing of the real tragedy, going in I knew this was going to be extremely emotional and Deadwyler made you feel Mamie Till’s pain. Completely heartbreaking.
