06/18/2021 Spoilers: Timothy Leary's dead head comes off in this. I lived in a group house when this came out and was watching it alone when my very uptight roommate walked in from a hard day of shopping at Filene's Basement. Right as the door opened, Leary's head came off, and my roommate screamed and dropped all her shopping bags. This may have a snuff film-like quality, beware! This confirmed my suspicions I don't like Timothy Leary. I've thumbed through his books over the years, I've listened as his myth was built and hummed over, and I always saw him as a turkey. How does a spiritual man understand immaterial realms when this film shows he was petrified of death? How is he capable of being a spiritual guide of immaterial realms when he wanted to conserve his material dumb-dumb brain? If the drugs were really good, he'd know his material human head doesn't mean poop to the greater existential soup of immaterial worlds, and yet this man was selling the spirituality of a drug initially developed by the government for mind control. He stunk. And he f'ed up a lot of kids with his ideas about drugs while he sold it under a faux spirituality. Major fart sounds on his grave, and maybe his head on ice can still smell 'em...?
