Clint Worthington RogerEbert.com In stripping down the Red Riding Hood fable to more terrestrial environs, ‘To Kill a Wolf' finds stronger, more delicate ways to sell the simmering psychology of its original fable. Rated: 3/4 Aug 1, 2025 Full Review Tim Grierson Screen International Marked by strong, reserved performances -- and deeply compassionate to its soulsick characters -- this quietly absorbing drama has secrets in store, each of them revealed with uncommon elegance. Aug 19, 2024 Full Review Peter Martin ScreenAnarchy Quietly affecting and deeply moving, To Kill a Wolf avoids shouting and yelling. The characters would rather use a rifle than a machine gun. They want everything they say to land as is intended. The film is all the more powerful because of that restraint. Aug 7, 2025 Full Review Isabella Cantillano-Sanchez InBetweenDrafts A visually and narratively gorgeous fairy tale retelling that manages to both honor and subvert the original story. Rated: 8/10 Aug 7, 2025 Full Review Miyako Pleines Spectrum Culture To Kill a Wolf is a haunting exploration of trauma and grief that will capture your attention even if it doesn’t swallow you whole. Aug 5, 2025 Full Review Tina Kakadelis Beyond the Cinerama Dome To Kill a Wolf is utterly commanding in its deconstruction of trust and creates a deeply evocative conversation about what redemption looks like. Chris Superb, well-crafted & enjoyable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/02/25 Full Review raymond l Surprisingly beautiful and dark at the same time. The screenplay, carefully crafted, the cinematography, breathtaking in capturing the internal and external worlds of the characters and the music, magical and absorbing, all reinforce the same feel. The direction doesnt get in the way of some quiet but powerful acting. Not your typical popcorn movie but it feeds the mind and heart. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review Kevin D. To Kill A Wolf is a beautiful and haunting film that captures the essence of the Pacific Northwest, with its misty forests and rugged landscapes adding an atmospheric weight to the story. The setting isn’t just a backdrop — it becomes part of the film’s tension and mood. What impressed me most was the slow, deliberate character development. The film carefully reveals more about each character’s true nature and struggles, building a portrait of complex emotional trauma that drives the story forward. It’s been a long time since a movie made me detest a character so strongly, a credit to both the writing and the performances that make these personalities feel painfully real. Overall, the film does an excellent job of layering atmosphere with human vulnerability, resulting in a tense, emotionally charged experience that lingered for me long after the credits. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review JP P Devastatingly beautiful to watch, devastatingly emotional to encounter the wolf. This is indie cinema at its best! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/13/25 Full Review David L To Kill a Wolf is an arresting, modern-day reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood that strips away fairy-tale frills and trades them for a raw, emotional edge. Director Kelsey Taylor crafts a taut, intimate drama where the menace is both external and internal, unfolding in landscapes that are as beautiful as they are foreboding. The performances—especially from the young lead—are magnetic, grounding the folkloric roots in palpable, contemporary reality. The film’s careful pacing, restrained cinematography, and layered symbolism elevate it beyond a simple retelling, making To Kill a Wolf a haunting, resonant experience that lingers long after the credits roll. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/13/25 Full Review Ricky F Beautiful, haunting and magical. Different than what I thought it was going to be, but pleasantly surprised.
