JoAnna Novak Bitch Media Marti Noxon's dramedy falls prey to the old AF story of wise male savior rescuing troubled girl. Feb 26, 2021 Full Review Alison Willmore BuzzFeed News Ultimately the most resonant message To the Bone has to offer is that there is no one certain way to heal from anorexia, and no one right way to tell stories about it either. Jerrilyn C I find it disheartening to see critic reviews from people who haven’t dealt with this issue first hand. An assumption of knowledge regarding film making and what it should look like is similar to a layman person determining what this sort of illness/addiction looks like. I would say if you don’t know first hand don’t say anything. There is no shame in saying I don’t understand the issue. However, speaking to how it’s portrayed and not knowing shows ignorance and an over grandiose belief in oneself about all things. It is so much worse than what you see. So much harder for those that are close the the people suffering and this is just a tip of the iceberg to make it palatable for people who have no understanding of this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/18/24 Full Review Charlotte B its a good movie to watch but please listen to the disclaimer at the start of the film i am anorexic and didnt listen to the disclaimer and i had been in recovery for a year and the film influenced me to drop into old habits its very triggering to people with eating disorders but other than that its a great movie with a plot that’s complex and real just watch with caution if you struggle with an ED Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/23/24 Full Review Kristen B This is the first movie I have watched since my addiction began 4 years , my addiction is a drug addiction not an eating disorder but this movie to me resonates to anyone who has or had an addiction and.understands the struggles mentally, emotionally and physically within us every day. Lily Collins showed such a strong and pure performance and Keanu Reeves, stellar and if there is a doctor like his character out there, please send him my way :) Thank you xo Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/21/24 Full Review Joanna T Fascinating but disturbing. Not sure if it realistically depicts anorexia. But I know nothing about the eating disorder and it was nice to learn some new facts. It's really sad how the actress Lily Collins had anorexia on and off, but she had to lose weight for this role. I don't understand why she took on this role in the first place. It can definitely spread the knowledge about the disorder, so that's good. It's fascinating how people have anorexia and starve themselves literally to death. And some of them can seek help, but I can see how there would not be much help offered to them since it's so simple from an outsider's perspective: they just have to eat. The movie had Lily Collins as the main character and her own mother (who became a lesbian and moved out of state) couldn't handle her. Her mom felt like she kept fighting Lily on this disorder. Lily's dad and stepmother took care of her, and the stepmother even fought to get her in-patient care. It was hard to watch the skinny girls try to starve themselves and exercise even more. Lily left the care, and then it ended with her going back in hopes that she will get better. It depicted a long struggle for these folks. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Rexie S Even when it proved that it's very complicated to make a movie about eating disorders without adding some extra glamour to make it watchable, there's a lot of value in trying with dignity. And they did that. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/13/24 Full Review Ionela C Beautiful, heartbreaking, sad and optimistic at the same time and last, but not least very realistic. Highly recommend!
