Little orphan Toby Tyler (Kevin Corcoran) runs away to join a traveling circus following a quarrel with his foster parents, Aunt Olive (Edith Evanson) and Uncle Daniel (Tom Fadden). Under the big top, Toby is exposed to a magical new world that includes a wacky chimpanzee named Mr. Stubbs. But the boy's friendship with paternal candy seller Harry Tupper (Bob Sweeney) is considerably less endearing -- especially when Tupper starts showing his mean-spirited true colors.

Audience Member The greatest 01 hour: and 36 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Saw this at 6 years of age in the theater when it first came out in 1960. Just saw it again last night. It was just as good as I remember it. A teriffic film for those under 10 years old. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review r 9 Despite a pleasing cast, 'Toby Tyler' fails to entertain. It's an OK premise, with a cute 'friendship' between boy and chimp. However, I just didn't enjoy it for large portions; it's quite plain. That's not to say it's a bad film, I just wanted a more satisfying 95 minutes. Kevin Corcoran, at this point in his career at least, isn't a great actor it must be said. I don't dislike him though, just nonplussed about his performance. At least his character is written better than he is in 'Savage Sam'. Henry Calvin is great in this, as Ben. He's likeable in the 'Zorro' films too, I appreciate what he gives here. One of his co-stars from those aforementioned productions, Gene Sheldon, is also a joy in the role of Sam. Bob Sweeney, portraying Tupper, is also good. I hold no hard feelings with this, it's just I believe Disney have done far better live-action films up to this point. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this sweet film as a child Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review ashley h Toby Tyler is a cute movie. It is about Toby Tyler who runs away to join the circus after being orphaned. Kevin Corcoran and Henry Calvin give amazing performances. The screenplay is well written. Charles Barton did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama. Toby Tyler is a must see.
