christopher c. m I like this, I really do. But Moby Dick is a not a fairy tale, it's a novel of obsession and whaling. There's no magic or mythical creatures. When Jack claims the beanstalk and sees all the fairy tale are exactly the same as the park, including Moby Dick. It makes you wonder if he's dreaming when he's not. Now Hanna-Barbara had a Moby Dick cartoon show in the 60s, but not sure if it was a mistake or an Easter egg. Ahab is still tied to Moby's tail which says, no it's not connected to the old cartoon. But I still enjoy it even with this glaring error. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Now how in the hell did you escape my 2019 wrath? With rare exceptions, it's pretty much a rule of mine that I'm ignoring all post-2013 entries in the direct-to-video film series of Tom and Jerry and Scooby-Doo. And apparently, I'd be damned before I let their take on Jack and the Beanstalk remain the sole survivor of my excessively harsh, rushed-out reviews. With all that out of the way, Tom and Jerry's Giant Adventure is nothing special. The animation is fluid, the slapstick is funny and there is some good action but it has forgettable songs, the duo have no real effect on the plot beyond giving Jack somebody to talk to and they're doomed to play second fiddle to the bland human protagonists. It isn't as worthy of attention as their ill-advised crossover with Willy Wonka (personally, I've been hoping for them to be in a Scooby-Doo production for years, but the more I think about it nowadays, the more I realise they're incompatible since that franchise is based more in reality and not as heavy on slapstick; any amusing injuries are limited to ones that at least look survivable in real life; any dynamic they could have with a talking dog would likely be hurt by the fact that they've taken a vow of silence since their misguided attempts to star in a Disney knockoff) but Giant Adventure seems like it exists just as family-friendly counterprogramming to the big, edgy live-action Jack and the Beanstalk movie that was out in cinemas at the time (which amusingly, actually was based off of a book that dared to ask the question "What if Jack was an action hero?"). I might have had my misgivings with the 2000's T&J DTV movies but at least the writers tried to make original stories that actually STAR the duo at that time.
