Alexandra Heller-Nicholas AWFJ.org Shattering the myth of unwavering, unbreakable sisterhood (both literally and figuratively), Torn Hearts has a lot to say about age, identity, ambition, solidarity and the limits of feminist solidarity. Jun 10, 2022 Full Review Amy Nicholson FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) This is a really strong thriller about country music, ambition, and the Nashville scene. Jun 7, 2022 Full Review Katie Rife RogerEbert.com If Torn Hearts had pushed itself a little harder, it could have ascended into camp heaven, and maybe become a cult classic. As it stands, it’s an unapologetically high-femme distraction that’s better than your average Lifetime thriller. Rated: 2.5/4 May 20, 2022 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film Sagal throws herself into the role with such force that’s a wonder the screen doesn’t break. Rated: 4.5/5 Aug 31, 2022 Full Review Martin Unsworth Starburst Torn Hearts shows the dark side of country music excellently, with Katey Sagal’s character bringing a Baby Jane vibe. Rated: 4/5 Aug 29, 2022 Full Review Shaun Munro Flickering Myth Torn Hearts' unvarnished edges are largely smoothed over by a trio of stellar performances – especially a riotously go-for-broke Katey Sagal. Jeff M I was hoping for some trashy fun with this one, but I ended up bored silly. I couldn't grasp whether the filmmakers were trying to make a true horror film or a satire. Unfortunately, it jumps back and forth between both, never quite finding success on either side of the fence. And I was a bit surprised that the whole enterprise had a cheap quality to it - particularly with anything involving the younger Dutchess Sisters. The performances are also a mixed bag. Sagal is playing to the rafters in true satire mode; whereas Quinn, who is a fascinating mixture of Rachel Dratch and Sara Gilbert, seems to be playing it straight. Of the three leads, Lemire probably does the best job of bridging the two gaps. But I suppose the biggest sin of all is that it isn't scary in the slightest. In fact, I'd say it works better as a serio-comic look at the price people are willing to pay for fame than anything resembling a horror movie - psychological or otherwise. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review Satin B A tad drawn out, and predictable. Great to see Katey Segal on the screen; need more of her gorgeous presence 🙌❤️ Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/28/23 Full Review Ken B I'll be honest, the only reason I watched this movie is because I like Katey Sagal and she did not disappoint here. The movie itself was a bit weak (or maybe it was the bubblegum mediocre sound of Torn Hearts), but Katey brought the darkness and suspense that this movie needed. I also tip my hat to the set design and the colours used to bring it all to life. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/22/23 Full Review Logan D Two bandmates meet their retired country star idol. When the idol offers to record a song with them, they will have to show how much they want it. Not much of a horror film. Far more of a thriller. Katey Segal and Quinn (A Knock at the Cabin) impress. It's about ambition and the dark side of the music industry. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/13/23 Full Review Jeffrey P A solid piece of suspenseful horror with country flare that is likely to exceed expectations. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/26/23 Full Review Audience Member It was still fun to watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
