Although more serious than he has ever been, Araki speaks his mind without being preachy and, what’s more, uses color and direct sound without losing the grit of his earliest pictures. Go to Full Review

Life is f***ed up, Araki is saying, but it is worth living. Go to Full Review

Although the teenaged ennui in the film sometimes comes off as hip nihilism, there's no question that the pain and turmoil depicted is anything but heartfelt. Go to Full Review

It’s a stark film about loneliness, isolation, and desperation for connection. Go to Full Review

Sergio A Jun 9 Another cinematic exercise by Gregg Araki that, while offering some good ideas and even flashes of absurdity (like the characters walking around randomly in chains), still manages to bring serious themes to the surface. Much like The Living End, it feels more like an experiment than a fully realized film. It has its moments, but its intentions remain somewhat unformed. See more Mason M 11/25/2024 An interesting look on the youth of America and the ongoing dread they face. With surprisingly beautiful visuals and heartbreaking execution, Totally F***ed Up is a very good and well done film for a concept that could've easily been a failure. See more Olive 02/20/2024 absolutely in love with gregg araki's cinematography and the visual aesthetic of his movies and characters, and i love the soundtracks of his movies as well, it's like the songs all came from my playlists. See more Thee S 06/28/2023 Very angsty, but fitting. See more 08/09/2020 I don't always need a movie to have a narrative to enjoy it but, despite this one's short runtime, this movie just felt like it went on forever and ever. It plays like a bunch of home video interviews someone shoots of themselves and their friends because they they think they're about a thousand times more interesting than they really are. Maybe the perspectives of these characters seemed somewhat novel in the early ‘90s but in 2020 they came across as immature adolescent cliches. See more 06/21/2020 Emotive, angsty, dreamy, nostalgic, and moving - Araki's film is a haunting snapshot of a place in time, of the pain and anxiety of the queer reality in a harsh, intolerant world.
