Alain E This movie has an impressive beginning. Creates an elaborate visual environment as we are introduced to our heroine, who is interpreted by the director, a westerner living in China married to a Chinese man of immense wealth. Her lifestyle incidentally would have forced Mao to self immolate. The communists of the 1940s and 50s could never imagine that this was the destination of the Long March. The scenes are masterfully composed and illuminated. It was impressive for me and I could imagine a Chinese audience, that Ms Szczepanowska speaks fluent Mandarin. She appears adrift in her luxury until she encounters a blind young male massage therapist. Although drawn to her, he is reluctant but she succeeds in starting a relationship. The second half of the movie becomes a bad horror flick as the timid young man becomes an aggressor, pursues the woman and despite his vision loss he is able to operate in unknown settings and confront her husband with results not good for the two male characters. I strongly recommend to watch the movie for the opening scenes and I hope that in the future the director will be able complete a more balanced film.
