paul d An odd and frustrating movie. It has a good story behind it, and a clever and more interesting film could have been made from it, but it's a clumsy screenplay. Among other problems, it insists on portraying the two male leads cartoonishly, with Frederic March as the confident and magically successful playboy and especially Ralph Bellamy as a dull-witted straight arrow. Joan Bennett is more straightforward and believable. Despite having to overcome this heavy script, March's considerable acting talents are fully on display. The newsreel /travelogue /world tour must have pleased audiences mightily in 1938 and is a reminder of how much the world has developed since then !
