Alec B "Casablanca" minus the romanticism and 40s Noir style (or much of anything period actually). Few directors could pull off this kind of timeless evocation of the past, but Petzold correctly sees history as alive and knows how often we appear close to repeating it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review amir t Starting with de-familiarize the occupied Paris and old footage of nazi rampage and marching in champ elysis , a breathtaking but repetitive narrative of stolen identity , keeping the macros intact , in current time , but adapting the micro to originals like the Reise pass belongs to deutsch reich ,maybe the involvement of audience commenced with a lag but then the tempo can navigate the movie , it's obvious intentionally acts are very theatrical but maybe the wandering Paula Beer is slightly overwhelming, in a nutshell it's eye-catching , startling and inclusive , two thumbs up! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It has entered, without a ticket or scale, on my list of the ten favorite movies of the month and the best hundred I have seen in my entire life. It is risky for its setting, modern and recognizable compared to a bygone era and, unfortunately, still recognizable, which makes it go even further than its love story. It is led by a formidable and overwhelmingly handsome Franz Rogowski who, alongside an enigmatic Paula Beer, defies all expectations and takes the viewer into an emotional and political journey that, in the end, leaves a inexplicably sublime taste. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member la pelicula tiene buen ritmo, pero la historia no me termino de convencer 6/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member What I liked: the general mood of uneasiness where everyone is trying to leave Marseille but spending most of their time in long lines at the consulates; the surreal menagerie of characters, such as the dog-minder who kills herself; the understated adaptation of the story in vaguely contemporary times. What I didn’t like: everyone except the main character is barely developed, and despite attempting to be a poetic love story, seemingly profound relationships and life-changing sacrifices are absurdly established after one or two brief encounters between these half-characters.
