Mary Ann Marshall (Kathleen Quinlan) stays late at her job, the only person in her office, and, she thinks, the only one in the 65-floor skyscraper. Her solitude is suddenly interrupted by an ax-wielding maniac (Ben Loggins), keen on enacting revenge on the company responsible for killing his daughter. An industrial spy (Bruce Abbott) comes to Mary Ann's aid, and the two of them must attempt to survive the killer's cat-and-mouse games in the maze of offices, elevators and staircases.
