Audience Member A beautiful story about a woman's self-discovery. A quiet cinematic experience that slowly steals its way into your mind through powerful performances and terrific cinematography. Natalya grew up in an orphanage and was married to an older man at the age of 16. Her husband dies when she is 35 and life begins to offer her opportunities for change. She meets Sergei who brings distraction and change into her life. Their relationship lets her discover her own vulnerability but also allows her to learn about herself and her needs. The lead actress gives a superb performance. Not everyone could show the development that the character experiences so convincingly. I already mentioned the great cinematography. My favorite image would be Natalya riding on the rail cart (?) in her wedding dress, wind blowing through her hair, eyes closed, arms spread - ready to embrace a new world, a new life. It's a quiet movie, an indie. A rare Russian gem from the last decade. Don't miss it, especially if you're in the mood to observe a withered flower bloom. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Maybe it was just a coinciedence of time and place and this film and me, I don't know. But I really enjoyed the visual side. And the feeling of doing only what you want... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautifully lyrical film about a woman finding herself. Very little spoken dialog highlights the cinematographic storytelling. My favorite film of MSP International Film Fest (of the 50 I saw). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Nice one. Long, quiet, beautifully shot in the middle of close to nowhere. Man, woman, goat, dog, balloon, house, orphans. This and that, as the story usually goes. Who needs a man, but a child... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Just saw this in the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival and it was beautifully lyrical and poignant. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I could have have used more something - anything - from our lead character. The ending is good and there are a few moments I almost connected - but mostly, this film is empty... and not because I'm missing something, but because it is.
