Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times The worst horror movies are those that don't understand their own absurdity. Trog!, on the other hand, understands it all too well. Rated: 1.5/4 Jul 3, 2018 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Joan Crawford's unfortunate swan song in this turkey puts her in the same company as Errol Flynn (Cuban Rebel Girls), Bette Davis (Wicked Stepmother), Veronica Lake (Flesh Feast), and other film legends who ended glorious careers in desultory fashion. Rated: C Jun 18, 2015 Full Review John Beifuss Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) I admit it: I have a soft spot in my heart (and my head) for the stupefying, inexplicable 'Trog.' Steve D How did they rope poor Crawford into this? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/24 Full Review Blu B It's Bad...Crawford isn't good. Half the time she seems like she doesn't even want to be there and is slumming it. The other half she's just rambling off plot expose. Trog is laughably bad. Everyone else is either forgettable or over the top like Gougch. Overall the acting is terrible. The cinematography and editing is terrible along with a subpar soundtrack and really bad pacing. Trog's costume is so cheap looking and badly designed its laughable. You genuinely can't take him seriously whenever he's on screen. Once they get Trog it feels like stuff just happens and it alternates between doing something with Trog and boring plot expose. The camerawork isn't bad but man this is so boring to look at half the time especially the court scenes. The dinosaur flashback I honestly have no idea what that was supposed to be about also. All the scenes with Trog killing anyone is laughably bad as well. It's clearly trying to capture the magic of B Movie Creature Features of old, but doesn't have any of the charm, atmosphere, or solid plot to do so. Skip This. It's terrible this was Joan Crawford's last film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/20/23 Full Review Audience Member While there are some moments in Trog I found serviceable (music, Trog's costume, etc.), I was a bit disappointed that Joan Crawford had to do this B-Movie. Her acting in this film was sadly bland. She went from winning an Oscar to this? Her career sadly fell off. What I also found repulsive in Trog was the lazy writing, Joan Crawford's bland acting (as it was stated before), poor editing, and to top it all off Trog had clips of Irwin Allen's movie "The Animal World" used in this film without giving him any credit whatsoever. Trog is just a bad film. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review dave s When a troglodyte is found in the depths of a cave in rural England, mayhem ensues when he is used in a laboratory to prove Darwinian evolution, eventually escaping and going on a nasty murder spree. Trog, sadly Joan Crawford's swan song, is a bit of an embarrassment from start to finish. Watch Trog wind a doll. Watch Trog roll a ball. Listen to Trog make creepy high-pitched noises. Watch Trog steal an apple and throw the vendor through the window. Watch the military haplessly try to shoot Trog in his strange cave filled with natural light. Watch Trog be soothed by classical music. And the trippy dinosaur scene has to be seen to be believed. It's all a little weird and not terribly interesting. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A single troglodyte is found alive in a cave. They operate on him and watch his brain waves on tv showing pictures of dinosaurs. He kills without any reason, then learns to speak. I love old bad movies, but this one is the worst. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member For Joan Crawford fans out there it's a must see, being her final film. Crawford, despite the budget & script, seems to make this work thanks to her consummate professionalism and own unique style. For fans of Michael Gough (Batman/Batman Returns/Batman Forever/Batman & Robin) you can see Alfred much more animated as the main supporting actor performing brilliantly. Hardly a horror by todays standards, but with this script and the very low budget it's hardly a surprise. You'll enjoy it as it now more comedy mixed with tragedy for the end of Crawford's career.
