Felt a bit flat to me. It's the story of a disgraced journalist out for redemption by meeting with and writing the story of a man in jail for killing his family. The movie plays on the dynamics between them and the motivations each have. I can see what they were trying to do, they just didn't pull it off well. Still, I didn't view it as a waste of time.

This was an enjoyable and fascinating movie. It was creepy, suspenseful at times, and James Franco was stellar, as usual. My expectations were low, thanks to the previous reviews, but this turned out to be a great selection for the evening. I will recommend it to others.

Jonah Hill has done well in dramas previously and Franco has some great acting under his belt too but something was missing in this film. It felt very flat and mono-toned and after the first half you could tell that it was not going anywhere. Both Hill and Franco's acting also seemed very ‘meh' in this film…but it passed the time.
