Elvis Mitchell Fort Worth Star-Telegram/DFW.com There are no surprises in The Truman Show, except that Weir and Carrey manage to keep the picture on course. Rated: 3/5 Feb 15, 2023 Full Review Terry Lawson Detroit Free Press This is acting that isn't, but Carrey doesn't let the two-way mirror throw him; his unreality becomes his only real truth. Tyler S Ya know, when this show came out, I bet everyone thought this was crazy. At this point, the plot was so different, but genius. I had a great time watching this! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/11/24 Full Review anne C The truman show is brilliant, it's similar to the hunger games and the matrix only less dramatised I also wouldn't consider it a science fiction. If you dislike the government and politics I would definitely recommend giving it a watch 😊 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review Akira A The Truman Show is basically like a Canadian 1984. It acted like it had something profound to say, but ultimately it's a hollow story with little to nothing deep or original to argue. And can we also agree that Jim Carrey cannot act? This movie pretended to be better than it really is. And it has as much artistic value as the Twilight movies. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review Platty the Perrypus W The twist would've been much better if they didn't reveal it from the start, but fantastic regardless Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Audience Member If Jim carry wasn’t in it the movie wouldn’t be as good Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Juan Pablo G The popular idea of being in a simulation has been passed down a lot, but one source of media that has made this idea a lot more interesting was the movie, “The Truman Show”. According to Buckmaster, Luke “Thinking about The Truman Show in 2023, it’s clear the film—marvellously written by Andrew Niccol—was ahead of its time in some respects and doomed to be quickly dated in others.” The Truman Show directed by Peter Weir is a movie about how the main character, Truman Burbank played by Jim Carrey is trapped in a fake suburban reality not fully aware that he is surrounded by actors who portray as his close family and friends such as Meryl Burbank/Burbank’ wife played by Laura Linney, and his close friend Marlon played by Noah Emmerich. In the world of The Truman Show we are introduced to the main character, Truman, a cheerful and brave individual living in a suburban town named Seahaven. The truth about Seahaven is that it isn’t a real town, but it’s a set that has been constructed to capture every move with the help of hidden cameras around the town which Truman doesn’t know. Truman is fully unaware that he is the main character of his own television series, and he doesn’t know that the people in that town are actors who are hired to revolve around his life. That is until he finds out the truths about the world that he’s living in by uncovering some of the mysteries that occur every time that he tries to escape. Some of the key details added into this movie that make it a visually good movie is the way the actors in the movie adapt to the environment of the town and revolving around Trumans life and actions without a script. Some of the cinematography in the show, not the movie, is being controlled by the director of the show, Christof, which his major role in this story is to control the environment, and the actions of the people close to Truman. One of the main messages of the movie that is thrown at us constantly without being too loud is how distracted the audience of this show is. This is such a great depiction of how our world really is and how true and relatable this message is and how much we pay attention to the media and other people’s actions than taking care of our own life. Once you take a look at The Truman Show, you will understand that not every movie needs to have a sequel. My opinion on this movie is that it tells a great story and delivers the message perfectly. Its message in the story really pushes out that we rely on and use too much social media/technology without questioning it than living our life to the fullest. According to Kendrick, James “While Truman is the ultimate incarnation of the victim of reality television, he is also symbolic of each one of us—all of us who readily accept everything we hear on the news, never question why celebrities are revered, never interrogate whatever political narrative is being spun, and rarely stop to contemplate if things could be better.” In my opinion I highly recommend this movie to viewers who like uncanny, mysterious plots in media and honestly if you don’t like these kinds of movies, I think this movie could possibly change your mind on this genre. From the setting to this movie, the way the actors adapted to this movie, the effects, it all connected in a good way that made it into an amazing piece of movie history. According to “This wasn’t just a science fiction story, this was something more innate. Truman Burbank felt like the best part of us. And it inspired me.” I would recommend this to people who understand what a good movie is and not to people who think a good movie is a movie you watched and loved as a kid who is blinded by nostalgia. I truly believe that once you see this movie, you will understand why this movie covers a lot of the truth that the media holds against us. Overall, I give The Truman Show 5/5 stars considering how impactful this movie had on me and how great the ending was. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Read all reviews
