Critics Consensus

Director David Schwimmer gets some gut-wrenching performances out of his actors but he still lacks the chops to fully ratchet up story tension.

Even if it's a mite clunky, Trust does a decent job and avoids the regulation happy ending. Go to Full Review

Ronald H May 25 The main lesson derived from this melodramatic, histrionic mess is that teenagers are idiots. See more May 13 The predator guy was super annoying. She didn't even like when she found out he was 20. But 25 and really old r ok? And an old guy going after a 14 yo was too weird. See more Deana W Apr 4 Clive Owen’s character was so annoying. The guy thought he was being helpful. It would have been better if from another perspective. See more Mar 13 Directed by former Friends tv star David Schwimmer this would be the last thing you’d expect to make his debut as a filmmaker But it’s very hard hitting This focuses on a 14 year old girl Annie talking to an older man online via chatroom She thinks it’s all innocent and romantic, she’s also surprised learning he’s much older meeting in person It isn’t long though until she’s sexually assaulted by him and one of her friends outs her to the school principal Her parents now have to deal with the fallout working with the authorities to track this man down and arrest him It also takes a long while for Annie to fully understand that this man basically groomed her and did not care for her in the slightest The film focuses less on finding the perpetrator and centers more around the aftermath of the trauma of the crime The father actually gets more focus here than the daughter which is strange And the ending is highly unsatisfactory since nothing gets resolved Schwimmer has good actors but he can’t really keep the tension up for a majority of the running time See more Alain E @AlainE 12/10/2024 It is a decent movie about a young girl of 14 who falls victim to a sexual predator she meets on line and the effects this event has to her and her family. There is no gratuitous nudity or sex scenes. The ending also is clever because there is no perfect resolution. When the final credits are projected the perpetrator has not been caught and instead we see him having a good time with his friends and family See more KOOKLA C @Kookla49 11/11/2024 too much of a tween movie for adults See more Read all reviews
