David Zurawik Baltimore Sun The visuals at the start of the film skillfully link the events of 1921 to deaths of Black citizens at the hands of law enforcement officers today. May 31, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

M G Well-made with fairly good research about Tulsa and post-Civil War history leading up to this tragic event. Three major takeaways: (1) The documentary can not help but further underscore the caveat that had Greenwood District residents not shown up with pistols and shotguns at Tulsa County Courthouse, this event very likely never would have happened. (2) Well-made as it is, it would have been prudent to include survivor interviews from both perspectives, which the film did not, leaving the presentation of an objective message somewhat unbalanced. (3) The final 5 minutes of the film just takes a wrong, turning into an outcry for cash payments to family survivors 100 years later. Perhaps a concerted plea to help rebuild the once-wonderful Greenwood Distict to its original 40+ block splendor would have gone so much further with viewers versus what comes off as -- sorry but -- a money grab. I do recommend this film however as an important part of Tulsa's history that should never be forgotten. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/10/22 Full Review Read all reviews
