TURA! is the authorized documentary on Asian American cinema pioneer Tura Satana, star of the Russ Meyer classic Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. Narrated by Margaret Cho and featuring interviews with John Waters, Dita Von Teese, Pamela Des Barres and more, TURA! is a thrilling, heartfelt look into the life of a woman who beat all the odds to become a burlesque superstar, cult movie icon, and enduring role model for female empowerment whose life and body of work continue to impact the world today. Tura created a look, style, and attitude that have influenced virtually all aspects of modern film, music, art and fashion. She was the first female Asian American bad ass in a Hollywood leading role. Homages to Tura are everywhere, from Madonna videos & Rob Zombie songs to Quentin Tarantino and Pee Wee Herman films. Popular television shows like Ringer and Riverdale have taken cues from Tura. She is a feminist & LGBTQ icon who smashed all the glass ceilings, paving the way for every leading female action star in Hollywood today.

This film is a revelation. While I was already aware of Tura Satana's legendary force of nature status, the documentary shows the deeper layers that cement her as a true badass. Her life story is an emotional journey that profoundly moved me. I finished watching with a sense of reverence, having fallen completely in love with her spirit and realizing what an incredibly important female is.

I bought this on Streaming as I couldn't wait for it to come out on blu-ray, hopefully. Tura Satana is an icon and this film is quite enlightening and a glimpse into who she was as a person. It's a really small world, too.

If you love Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill! and Astro Zombies, Tura is essential viewing. Like the Iconic Varla this doco smashes you right in the guts. An engaging and eye-opening ode to Tura Santana, who was karate kicking men before Bruce Lee, and showed how women can kick butt years before Pam Grier came along. Tura will amaze, shock and move you, and yet there's a hilarious story or two. A Must See.

This documentary brings style AND substance. It captures Tura’s ever-glamorous, and at times melancholic, lifestyle with striking honesty and intimacy. Tales of tragedy and triumph are beautifully interwoven through the memories of her family and dearest friends. An exquisite tribute to a timeless icon.
