Filmmaker Marco Williams travels to Jasper, Texas, where a black man named James Byrd Jr. was brutally beaten and ultimately killed by three white men in 1998. There, he interviews both black and white citizens of the town in an effort to get a grasp on the Byrd case and how it came to happen. After taking his cameras into court to monitor the trial, Williams also explores the racial divisions that still exist in Jasper 40 years after desegregation.
