Matt Singer IFC.com A chilling cautionary tale about what can happen when success becomes a drug ... once you're hooked, the only thing that matters is maintaining the high at any cost. Rated: B+ Dec 21, 2010 Full Review Eric Kohn indieWire The documentary provides an insightful means of eulogizing its chief subjects in mythological terms with its vaguely optimistic conclusion: The game continues, and thus so does the struggle. Nov 2, 2010 Full Review Sheri Linden The Hollywood Reporter Escobars captures the passion and personality of a group of exceptional athletes and their ecstatic bond with fans. Nov 2, 2010 Full Review John Esther UR Chicago Magazine Jeff and Michael Zimbalist's documentary about a nation strapped under the boots of crime and outside forces above the law is just about as exciting as they come and it is gunning, er, shooting for my Top Ten of 2010 List. Nov 5, 2010 Full Review Cynthia Fuchs PopMatters The film makes a persuasive broader indictment, tracing the social and political moving parts that connected soccer, gangsterism, and money. Nov 2, 2010 Full Review Vadim Rizov Boxoffice Magazine Luridly compelling. Rated: 3/5 Oct 19, 2010 Full Review Read all reviews

johnathon w Superb documentary examining the rise of the Columbia National Football team in the 1990's, showing how it was tied to drug lord, Pablo Escobar, along with its downfall. The filmmakers do a superb job telling parallel stories of the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar alongside the Columbia Football team and its leader, Andre Escobar, showing how Pablo used his drug money to fund the team, seeing it rise the fourth in the world, only for his death to bring about its downfall as well. It is a truly fascinating examination of how corruption can seep into all angles of sports. A truly fantastic watch. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review s r A fascinating story that lacked structure / story telling. There didn't seem to be much planning done before. It seemed like they decided to just do the interviews, splice in the archival footage and tell the story chronologically. Saw on ESPN+. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Best sports documentary I have ever seen, very insightful look into the story of Colombia. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member "CHILLING | DAUNTING | PAINSTAKING | MOVING | POWERFUL" (92-out-of-100) Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member One of my fav sports documentaries of all time. Extremely informative, presents a lot of info that's not commonly available on the 1st page of a google search. Gave me a newfound respect for Columbia and their fight against their demons. Each story presented here is worthy of a 30for30 episode, in their own right. You would guess that by mixing them both into 1 episode that they would be detracting from them; but imho the way they are presented actually enhanced each one. Bravo Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Fantastic documentary. I knew about both stories but didn't realise the correlation and link between the two of the Escobars. You know a documentary has done its job when you find your emotional standpoint has changed after watching. This film highlights that despite contributing in various ways to the local communities and sports development, money funded by the narco trade was never going to be a sustainable way for progress and Colombia is still trying to put all the pieces back together again. A must watch. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
