Audience Member A touching story about family , loss, depression and the struggle to go on after losing a partner. Sprinkled with humour and intensely emotional beats, this movie is a great directorial start for Tom Beard. The young actors stand out with amazing performances. Particularly Bella Ramsey (Worst Witch, Game of Thrones) who plays Miranda. Her performance displays an intensity that will both shock and delight you with her abilities. This movie tugs at your heart strings playing a tune both inventive and familiar to many of us. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review julia p Important theme, well handled and acted, but I failed to empathise with characters and their stories. So the rating I award says more about me than it does about the film (in that I'm looking for a bit of escapism at the cinema rather than real life grit!) Beth Webb Empire Magazine Sweet but not sentimental, sad but not cynical, Two For Joy is a welcome new take on a British realism with disarmingly impressive performances from its young cast. Rated: 4/5 Sep 28, 2018 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) It's a sombre British drama in the spirit of Andrea Arnold and Clio Barnard: unforced and superbly acted, with fleeting moments of beauty to leaven the gloom. Rated: 4/5 Sep 28, 2018 Full Review Larushka Ivan-Zadeh Metro Newspaper (UK) Sensitively realised and soundscaped, there's an almost unbearable tension surrounding these damaged, volatile characters who encounter danger at every turn - mainly from themselves. Rated: 4/5 Sep 27, 2018 Full Review Charlotte Harrison cultbox Writer-director Tom Beard, making his feature film director debut, has created characters who are presented honestly but humanely. They're openly flawed but treated sympathetically, we cannot help but care for them. Rated: 4/5 Jan 29, 2020 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews The probing family drama makes for a good film but an unpleasant watch. Rated: B Feb 27, 2019 Full Review Sarah Cartland Caution Spoilers A film about a family where grief has become the driving force, rather than the reaction. At times unutterably sad, it's beautifully made - and in a movie crammed with excellent performances, Bella Ramsey blazes. Rated: 4/5 Feb 22, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
