Critics Consensus

UHF is bizarre, freewheeling, and spotty, though its anarchic spirit cannot be denied.

Noel Murray The Dissolve It's agreeably goofy, and it feels like something anyone could do, even if that's not the case. Rated: 3/5 Nov 10, 2014 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times This is the dreariest comedy in many a month, a depressing slog through recycled comic formulas. Rated: 1/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy The film largely works because of Yankovic’s personality and because of the parodies. Chase T One of the funniest movies ever. Every scene is hilarious. Very 80s. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/09/25 Full Review Tagen K Don’t come into this expecting Tarantino quality stuff, because this isn’t what it is, it’s a comedy and for an 80s comedy, it’s absolutely amazing. It’s one of the best 80s comedy’s, not only that it’s one of the greatest comedy’s ever, for comedy lovers it’s a must see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/07/25 Full Review Stephen C Funny in 1 hour and 37 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The USA grossed over $5,600,000.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/04/25 Full Review RJThePro T This movie is certainly what I would expect from Weird Al. Decently funny with a hint of ‘what in the freaking world is going on right now?’ in a good way. Lots of movie and show references, which is to be expected. Pretty intriguing plot, it is definitely original (at least in my experience of movies). The actors were pretty good, and Weird Al was a superb actor. He really emitted his character’s different emotions very well. Really funny and goofy movie, definitely worth a watch! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/30/25 Full Review Butch W Quite possibly the funniest movie I've seen. Weird Al missed his calling. This should have been a more successful film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/25/24 Full Review Nick R It's wild and all over the place, but it's from the King of Parody himself! 'UHF' is just plain fun!
