Audience Member A masterpiece, when the young Belmondo meets the old Gabin Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Un bon film d'epoque. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Ths movie is from another age but is a timeless piece of whimsy. It is simply a portal into a place that does not exist any more. Gabin is at his prickly best as a hotel proprietor who's lost his joy d'vive over a promise he made to his long suffering wife during a perilous bombing raid. Belmondo plays a hell raiser trying to work up the courage to change his ways and take on some responsibility. Both men are unhappy at their core and find solace in a drinking binge which unlocks the door to future happiness. This is a gentle movie, it looks great in its wintry darkness and tone. The movie itself gives of a pleasant hearty glow of humanity. Well worth watching, stand out scenes: Gabin in drunk mode, Belmondo dancing and Belmondo 'bullfighting'.
