Audience Member Eugenie is a pretty much worthless but still entertaining sexploitation adaptation of the Marquis de Sade's Philosophy in the Bedroom. As with most Sadean films, it pales in comparison to de Sade's novels--Passolini's Salo is an exception to this rule. More than anything else, Eugenie is just an excuse to ogle Katja Bienert's teenage body. And while that is entertaining it fails to elevate the first two-thirds of the film. The film becomes genuinely twisted somewhat in its latter third, but it still fails to pack the philosophical and visceral combo of the Marquis's writings which simultaneously attack you on bodily level while also assaulting your most basic ethical assumptions. Eugenie fails to do either of those things and ends up being nothing more than a sumptious piece of sexploitation filth that will entertain fans of the genre but that does little more. Oh, but it does have Christopher Lee which also adds to the entertainment value. The score was stunning and the female is probably the best ever, this movie really is plain brilliant. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Nearly plotless film is really just an excuse to oogle the naked body of underage actress Katja Bienert. Yes, but what a body!
