David Stratton The Australian The plotting is convoluted and the motivations not always clear, but the film gets by on the strength of some solid performances and the attractive photography by Bonnie Elliott. Rated: 3/5 Mar 6, 2020 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It's an intelligent film, but it's relentless. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 26, 2020 Full Review Nadine Whitney The Curb Undertow is an extraordinary piece of slice-of-life cinema that investigates the lengths people will go to deal with trauma and loss. Rated: A May 4, 2024 Full Review Jane Freebury The Canberra Times (Australia) Despite these reservations, Undertow is in many ways an impressive achievement, and it augurs well for director Nation's next project. Rated: 3/5 Aug 22, 2022 Full Review Jim Schembri 3AW There are a lot of terrific genre elements in Undertow, particularly the themes about obsession and men behaving badly, so it's a pity these weren't dialled up to deliver a more satisfying third act. Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 12, 2020 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews A gripping psychological thriller pertaining to a woman giving birth to a stillborn child and grieving over the loss while trying to gain her bearings. Edward B Shows promise early on then falls off a cliff with same old cliche physiological flashes in and out of reality. Trying to be too clever without the actual talent, the lead female actor behaviour is frustrating and bit over the top . Overall it wants to be a better quality of film however it comes off lacklustre Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/14/24 Full Review Audience Member After a fairly involving opening, the story does become stagnant and the film visually repetitive. Though it loses some serious momentum, a satisfying end and Laura Gordon's remarkable and emotive performance earn it a pass mark Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
