adam b A decent performance from Cobie Smolders can't save the film from generic writing and an annoying character played by Gail Bean Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review nilufer e This was a cute little movie about having a baby in two very different lives and it just was so real and accurate ;it really made me want to have a baby. Lovely cast, good acting but don't expect too much going on.. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A likely friendship in an unexpected circumstance. Seeing how much the film succeeded, I was not expecting a wonderful drama. I am satisfied with it though, like it portrays about being pregnant, particularly about the teenage pregnancy. They did not go deeper on that topic to just disclose the negatives, instead they told a heartwarming tale, the relationship between two unlikely pregnant women. After a high school teacher and her student got pregnant unexpectedly, and having a common, they come closer to get by together those tough times. During the period, they plan for their future, but many bumps on the road, how they tackle it was revealed in the rest of the film. I have heard that Cobie Smulders was really pregnant during making this film. She was good and the highlight of the film. I haven't seen her many solo films. So I find her a much better actress and beautiful than in any of her multi-starer films. Her co-star was not bad either. An interesting storyline, and well written, but not enough to impress a large group of audience. Some people would enjoy it though, probably women who went through a similar situation in their lives. Sometimes we expect a film and reject it if it does not stand up to that par. But some films just reveal what it is intended to and this is that kind of film, whether you like it or not, it will be what it is. 7/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Unexpected has some good messages and performances but the movie never really boils on what it wants to be. It's just another basic film about a pregnant women that really doesn't go anywhere or offer anything memorable. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Well meaning yet ultimately flawed drama that tries to address serious issues. Sadly ends up being a series of cliches that fail to do anything other than induce a deep sleep. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Sometimes calling a film "mild" or "pleasant" isn't damning with faint praise. Unexpected is one of those films. Telling a simple story in a beautifully, genuine and humanistic way, with warmth, wit and truth, Unexpected is a gem. Cobie Smulders, following Results and The Intervrntion, is really doing interesting and memorable work and is flawless here, and Gail Bean will be one to watch. Scott Marks San Diego Reader With a 90-minute running time, Unexpected would fit comfortably, with room for commercial breaks, in a two-hour network time slot. How did it ever find a theatrical release? Rated: 0/5 Aug 20, 2015 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Smulders gives one of the most natural performances of her career, and Bean's subtle, strong work announces her as a young actress to watch. The script's high point for adrenaline is when Samantha and Jasmine make the impulsive decision to - wait for it - litter.
