Much like a preservative-packed toaster pastry, Unfrosted is sweet and colorful, yet it's ultimately an empty experience that may leave the consumer feeling pangs of regret.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) Jerry Seinfeld’s debut as a feature film writer and director is a mess. His breakfast pastry-themed 1960s farce plays like he shot every idea he had and made it into a 93-minute movie, regardless of whether they worked together or were particularly funny. May 16, 2024 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) Unfrosted is silly and dumb, but it’s meant to be silly and dumb. You don’t expect it to take anything seriously and it really, really doesn’t. Rated: 3/5 May 15, 2024 Full Review Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) There's a lot of not terribly funny jokes in this film. A lot of hit and miss, sort of like a Saturday Night Live show where three-out-of-five jokes are vaguely funny and the other two aren't. May 13, 2024 Full Review Philip Bagnall Loud and Clear Reviews As it is, Unfrosted is handsome, but lacking bite and substance. In short, it’s a Pop Tart, all sugar and frosting, but any actual goodness is hard to find. Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 19, 2024 Full Review A.S. Hamrah Fast Company Most of the jokes are as flat as turkey slices and the whole thing presupposes how predictable it will be. Sep 17, 2024 Full Review Martin Carr martincarr.co.uk This lacklustre comedy written and directed by Jerry Seinfeld is no good for anybody. Centred on a battle of wills between opposing cereal companies, Unfrosted falls flat from the outset despite a wealth of solid talent onboard. Sep 14, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Jay W Perhaps it was my mistake, I went into this film hoping it would be funny. At this point in time there is a strange surplus of "Product Bio-Pics". Movies not about people, but about famous products. Films like, "Air", "Tetris", "Flamin' Hot" and "Blackberry" make up a very specific trend. I thought that this could do what "Walk Hard" did for music biopics. The idea of taking something as dumb as Pop-Tarts as super serious groundbreaking stuff could make an entertaining movie. Add in some very funny people and talented comedians, this should be a slam dunk. But then you watch it. And you remember, this is the same guy that brought us "The Bee Movie" and it all makes sense. The movie has about 6 different plot threads going on at the same time. There are some angry milk men, cereal mascots, sugar mafia, JFK and the Russians and a living piece of ravioli. These plot points don't get resolved as much as the movie just stops. The runtime is met, and we can stop focusing on them. The same man that is able to make a 30-minute story about finding your car in the parking lot, cannot juggle all these plot points in 95 minutes. The jokes are either underdeveloped and too surreal, or they are too over explained. I want to laugh, I want this movie to be funny, but it just does not come together. Much like the product it is representing, the whole thing is just stale. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/19/24 Full Review Birithivy Y Unfrosted - 3/10. Woof, this is rough. Really rough. Seinfeld is one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. It basically made something out of nothing. But as more years go by, it seems like the success of that show was solely due to Larry David’s genius rather than Jerry’s. And after quite a few years, Seinfeld returns to film with this, shall I put it as lightly as possible, zany and super goofy biopic satire. I get what Seinfeld was doing here: he wanted to deliver a satire on the popular biopic genre. He turns the genre on its head, and makes zany and silly directorial choices here. The jokes are flatter than a Pop Tart, the direction is over the top (but not in a good way), and the story is a sorry excuse of making a big budget commercial for Kelloggs. I really want to see why he made this, and why he decided that after Bee Movie, he thought this would be his way to get back on the scene. Questionable choices in every stretch of the manner, unfunny to the point where its funny that its unfunny, and a baffling Netflix production that seems like it was made solely for tax write off purposes. The only major positive is the production design, which actually is cool and interesting to look at! Really captures the era! But, this is a horrible excuse for satire! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/14/24 Full Review Early W I am not sure why this film has such a low score. Honestly. This was one of the funniest movies of the year, if not one of the funniest movies I have seen in the last ten years. What you get is Jerry Seinfeld's sharp wit and backhanded dialogue as if it were playing out like an episode of Seinfeld. It reminded me of how much I miss that show. This is a film that doesn't rely on disgusting toilet humor or punchlines that are just a creative way to use the F-Bomb like so many modern comedies seem to do. Instead we get a film with wit, charm and a ton of hilariously quotable moments. I don't need to go into the plot because I am sure you can get the jest of it just by reading the description on Netflix. Just watch this movie.
