Ironically, while the writing is smarter than the average B (or even A) flick - characters make some pretty resourceful choices - the larger character motivations are still really poorly done. Why would the store owner not immediately flee not knowing who was doing what? Why did the boyfriend not immediately call 911? And Johnson's character too was flawed, but I don't want to give away any plot points, such as they are.
