Chris Chang Film Comment Magazine Gunfire, a big knife, and perhaps best of all, a jaw-dropping elevator malfunction all figure in the mix. Judging by this, South Korean cinema isn't just alive and well, it's kicking and screaming. Jun 17, 2013 Full Review Simon Miraudo Quickflix Although The Unjust has a kinetic energy, I suspect that's merely to distract from the overly-convoluted plot, and the film's one wildcard - that bizarre sense-of-humour... - disappears after the first hour. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 17, 2011 Full Review Ron Wilkinson Monsters and Critics A film noir dripping with guilt and laced with absurdity. In Korean Gotham all the cops are criminals and all the sinners saints. Rated: 8/10 Jul 6, 2011 Full Review Read all reviews

JJJJJJ J This film has some good ideas but its held back by its overly complex, and hard to follow plot. If they had simplified the plot taking out like half of the material it stuck with a more unifying theme this movie could have been so much better. There is no better way to explain the issues with this film then just how many characters enter and exit the film, or seem like they are building to be important players and then just disappear for half the film. Due to the amount of time spent to developing all these side characters the main character ark and narrative does get enough time and the finale of the film does not hit with the emotional potency the director wanted. I will not completely write off this film. It does have some interesting themes that it is working with and for that reason is worth the watch for any hardcore fan but for more casual viewers looking for an interesting movie this is not the place. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/13/23 Full Review acsdoug D The acting is good and the production values are high, but the story is a mess. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/25/23 Full Review Audience Member 'The Unjust' is yet another example of Korean noir film-making at its finest. The acting is first-rate, the screenplay detailed, cinematography and cuts are above par. The unfolding of events become darker as the film progresses and ends with a BANG. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review don s Welcome to Korea, where the police apparently are just as corrupt as the criminals. This is a slightly convoluted tale of cops and DAs on the take in the name of ambition and pride. As you would surmise, there is gunplay, physical beatings and death. It doesn't paint a pretty picture, but it is put together well enough that your are never bored even if you can sense where it is all leading in the end. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The Unjust has slick direction and fine performances, but its all undone by lazy and uneven writing. The premise itself is interesting: When a suspected serial killer is killed while being apprehended, the police try to find a patsy in order to satisfy the public. A disgraced Captain who wants a promotion is given the chance and teams up with a mob boss, but a thorough prosecutor won't let it go. The movie should literally end at the 90-95 minute mark. They have this haunting moving shot that is perfect. Instead, they add in a few more unneeded plot details here and there and end it on a whimper instead of a bang. The ending is not the only weak point, weird plot points happen that seem ridiculous when they occur, and some of the conflict simply fizzles out. At the 100 minute mark, I was wondering when this thing was going to end. That is never a good sign when watching a film. It does have a few cool scenes and some weird black humour, but The Unjust is just unwell. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member If American movies were even close to as good as Korean movies, life would be so much better. xx Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
